WELCOME

Most people come to this site from La la LA Land and, to get most from it, you need to read "La la LA Land, a Discovery in the English Countryside". Use the link above to get a copy. A person who is in La la Land is usually said to be someone who is out of touch with reality, has their head in the clouds, a dreamer. (if capitals are used it is also a nickname for Los Angeles).  Put in the extra LA in capitals and we have someone who is 2 steps beyond  cloud 9 but travelling in the same direction assuming this is possible .

Cloud 11 and La la LA Land provide us with a way of exploring the future. Not the future predicted by scientists, sociologists and economists and other professionals but rather the future that we actually want. It is always assumed that all we want is to be rich. To have more things and of better quality than we have now. This says nothing about inexpensive but important pleasures such as being with friends that we like and ignores the huge problems of getting what we want in a world with only limited resources and a growing population much of which barely has enough basic things, such as food, water, shelter and medicine to survive from day to day.

So we are thinking about having an extra type of happiness but disconnected from reality, the here and now of our current lives. The booklet provides a framework for thinking about what kind of future we really want. It describes a whole range of possible pleasures, as enjoyed by the Beautiful People, the Barons and the Dons. It contrasts this with the unpleasantness of the lives of the Serfs and the Broken Ones highlighting what we don’t want and providing a negative context that perhaps, in seeking our own happiness, has to be addressed.
